Pacific Northwest Model Yacht Club Annual Membership Meeting Saturday, February 11, 2023 Seattle Yacht Club Present: Club Officers: Rod Johnson, Allan Van Ness, Dan Matthews, Bill Daniel, Frank Blanchard Attendees: Will Lesh, Philip Hubbell, Dan Newland, Dan Darrow, Tom Condon, John Ive, Dan Shier, John Spiller Meeting began at 10:15, with opening comments from Rod Johnson our Commodore. Rod began with a summary of the main events the club managed the previous year. Main regattas of the year were the Regionals at Port Ludlow. Meicho & Knight Memorial and barbecue at Coulon Park, North American Championship at Seattle Yacht Club, and the AVN Frostbite Series held monthly at various locations. In addition, club members had many “fun sails” weekly at Port Ludlow, and South Lake Union Pond. Dan Matthews, club treasure, made his finance report. We were able to host events and activities all year with what had been collected from membership dues. Club bank account remains very solvent. Allen Van Ness presented the slate of club officers for voting, and all current officers were unanimously re-elected. Major races this year are tentatively set May=Regionals September=Memorial Oct=Nationals Seattle Travel Fleet 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month Olympia Sail fleet 1 st and 3 rd Sunday of each month Weekly “fun sails” will continue on Wednesdays at Port Ludlow, and Mondays at South Lake Union Pond. Revised SI (sailing instructions) and NOR (notice of race) were distributed Proposed changes to the PNMYC Bylaws were discussed and changes were approved unanimously by vote Annual club membership applications are du no later than April 1 Membership will be required to sail in major regattas hosted by PNMYC AMYA membership is encouraged but optional Junior (age under 19) membership reduced to $5.00 Executive Committee meetings may be held at any location deemed by committee All officers elected must be owners and sailors of T37 Sloops A broad-based open discussion of racing venues Search for new or alternate locations Swimming and fishing locations excluded from summer events Accessibility to and from sites Adaptable for racing needs Extended discussion by full group on planning for marketing and aiding possible new members Get more people out to the “fun sails”, less competition and more teaching and guidance Create a social environment, or leisure time after event Assist in getting newcomers feeling welcome and part of the group Supply time, tools, and advice in helping T37 kit owners build their boat Welcome interaction with other classes of R/C boats Promote to local clubs, groups and classes associated with sailing Lunch Break Afternoon Session – Informational Presentations – Graphics and text will be posted to PNMYC.org Dan Shier – AMYA Rod Carr – model sailmaker, and model sailing historian Philip Hubbell – review of several racing rules Dan Newland – T37 Sail Shape Social interaction sharing information and examining boats brought for display
